This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things!

As I scrubbed vomit out of (or rather, into) the one piece of "nice" furniture we own, I pictured myself in a muumuu, cigarette clinging to my withered lips, shouting, "This is why we can't have nice things!"

Yes, in sickness and in health, our sweet Gizmo is bound and determined to deface every single surface in this apartment. And I mean every surface. The walls, the kitchen cabinets, the brown chair, the purple chair, the couch cushions, our bedspread, the bookshelves, the end table--well, you get the idea. At least he knows how to properly hold a pen. Writing readiness.

Not quite so humorous is the fact that our sweet Gizmo is sick, yet again. Two weeks ago the cold from, well you know, came into our bodies and has yet to completely release us. On top of that, Gizmo has a terribly uncomfortable fever and all over aches and pains. I actually took him to the doctor today--that's how bad it is. B.daddy and I both know it's just viral and there's nothing to be done outside of Tylenol and lots of love and fluids. But, you know, it reaches a point when you want a trained medical professional to say all you can do is give him "supportive care." Gotta love the medical term for TLC!

Negotiations

Ross and Amanda hosted the gathering of the church tonight since Gizmo is as sick as a dog. B.daddy and Li'l Bit were able to go because they are apparently immune. So, I sent dinner with them, consisting of barbecue chicken, potato salad, and homemade yellow cake with chocolate frosting.
B.daddy and Li'l Bit got home around nine, and of course the first order of business is that she had not eaten anything for dinner, therefore she could not have any cake.
Let the negotiations begin.
She stated that she didn't like the chicken, so I told her she could eat some potato salad and then she could have cake. As much as we've had this same conversation, she knew to clarify: "So, I'll have a tiny bit of potato salad--like one piece of potato."
"No, dear, that's not going to get you any cake," I said.
So, she walked over to where I was sitting, placed her hand on my leg, looked into my eyes, and said, "What will get me some cake?"

On a lucky night, that one might have gotten her some cake. But tonight she did not eat her potato salad, so she did not get any cake. Her last words to me as I was tucking her into bed were, "Okay, cake tomorrow. After I wake up."

sweet babies

Our babies are up to their usual nonsense. ;)

Gizmo still loves all things dangerous and dirty. It's getting easier to communicate with him, which is making all of our lives easier! (He's got a bit of a temper.) He's getting bigger and more beautiful everyday. He loves, loves, loves planes, trains, and automobiles. He can't get enough of them. And he also cannot get enough of our undivided attention. His most commonly spoken phrase: "Come play in my room with me, just you and me!"

Li'l Bit is about silly as it gets. She finds great delight in her newly discovered power to make people laugh. I fear she's getting the short end of the stick these days as her two younger siblings demand so much more attention. We're mindful of it though, and try to zero in on her any chance we get. And, of course, she'll still sit for hours on end if she's being read to. We're pressing forward in her phonics study but doing so leisurely.

Ladybug has a very stinky diaper right now. :) Poor girl has been sick all week, and I am more than ready for her to be her old self again. I'm not accustomed to her being cranky and fussy all the time. It's pitiful! Other than that, she's doing great and stealing our hearts over and over everyday. There's not enough time in the day to love on her!
